Traceability in the vineyards

Traceability in the vineyardsOut of a concern for quality that we develop year by year, the winery’s vineyards are carefully monitored by our Quality Manager throughout the year.
The entire approach forms part of the Winery Quality Charter, which promotes sustainable viticulture that is respectful to man and his environment.

It is a huge task, in that the winery’s vineyards in Kientzheim-Kaysersberg are extremely fragmented, representing 1,000 parcels on 168 Hectares, 80% of which are in Kientzheim and Kaysersberg.

Traceability in the vineyardsA quality charter has been introduced for each wine-grower and includes the following :

  • During the winter, decisions about which grape varieties to plant are taken on a consultative basis
  • In the spring and throughout the vine’s growth period, all the parcels will undergo agronomic observation and be classified according to their quality potential. The winegrowers are accompanied by the Quality Manager in their decisions on protecting their vines with phytosanitary products,
  • Before and during the harvest, a maturity monitoring system is introduced, with daily tasting of the grapes,
  • On the Grands Crus parcels, a Committee works with the Quality Manager to ensure that instructions are followed with regard to the quality approach: checks on vine loads, removal of buds and suckers to control yields, organization of the trellising plan … these are all decisive in producing grapes of excellent quality for the harvest.

For the making of Pinot Noir Exception, special accompaniment is offered to the wine-grower, who tends his 4 parcels with loving care: work on yields, work on the soils, improving air circulation in the vines and the trellising plan. When the grapes are harvested, they are very carefully sorted by the pickers directly on the parcel.
